VibeSwipe
Privacy Policy
VibeSwipe (“we”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal data we handle and why. VibeSwipe is run and hosted in the European Union. You must be 18 or older to use it.
Who is responsible
VibeSwipe is the controller of your personal data. We handle the minimum needed to run a safe service, and you do not have to create an account.
What we collect
Profile details you enter: a display name, age, a rough region (country or region only, never your exact location), optional theme and language match preferences, vibe tags and a mood. These show up on your live card. You declare them yourself and we do not verify them.
A device identifier: a random ID stored in your browser’s local storage, used to enforce blocks and bans. It is not linked to your real identity.
Network data: your IP address, used for security, abuse prevention and ban enforcement.
Profile picture: in Video mode you must take a fresh camera photo before each time you enter the deck. That Video photo is used only for the current Video session and is not reused in Chat only. In Chat only a picture is drawn from your profile for you, and taking or choosing a real photo is optional. Your latest optional Chat-only photo is saved in this browser’s local storage so Chat Quick Start can reuse it, but it is never used to satisfy Video mode’s fresh-photo step. Either type of picture is relayed to compatible people in its separate live matching pool as your preview card. It is not stored as profile or account data on our server. The server holds the live preview only while you are connected and discards it when you disconnect. You can remove the saved Chat-only browser copy from profile setup or by clearing this site’s browser data.
Video and audio during a chat: this happens in video mode only. When you match with someone, your video and audio connect directly between your two devices (peer-to-peer, using WebRTC). We do not record or store the content of your calls, and we have no access to it.
Messages you type: your messages pass through our server so they can reach the person you matched with. This is how both modes work. The server holds only the last 25 messages of the conversation you are in, in memory, so that a report has something to show. That short list is dropped as soon as the match ends. We do not save your conversations to a database, and we do not read them to target ads.
Saved conversations: if you and the other person are friends, your browser keeps that conversation on your own device so you can pick it up next time. A conversation with someone who is not in your friend list is never saved anywhere. Removing a friend deletes the conversation you had with them, and clearing this site’s browser data deletes all of them with no way to get them back.
Messages waiting for a friend: if you message a friend who is not connected, we temporarily hold that message for them — its text or bounded photo or voice-note attachment, duration and waveform, the two friend codes and the message identifiers needed for delivery — so they can receive it when they come back. It is deleted the moment it is handed over, and after fourteen days if it is never collected. When both of you are online the message is passed straight through and never written down, and a conversation with someone who is not your friend cannot use this at all.
Hearts and away status: you can react to a single message with a heart, and the other person is shown when you switch to another tab so they know you stepped away. Both are passed straight through to the person you are matched with and nothing about either is stored on our server.
Friends and likes: your browser can create a signing key for itself and show you the friend code derived from it. We store that public key, the code, and the number of distinct people who have liked you. This is not an account: there is no password, no email and no recovery, and we never learn a name against it. A like can only be given by someone you were actually matched with, once per person, and only the total is ever shown.
Notification delivery, if you turn notifications on: the address your browser’s push service gives us for that device, the two keys needed to encrypt a message to it, and whether you asked to be told when a friend comes online. We use it to send you a notification and nothing else. What we send is encrypted and contains a friend code and the kind of event — never a name, never anything anyone typed; your own browser turns the code back into a name from the list it already holds.
Which friend codes your browser watches, once notifications are on for a device: we keep the codes so we can tell you a friend came online while VibeSwipe is closed, which is impossible to do from your open page alone. It is a list of codes; it holds no names, and it is replaced in full every time your browser reconnects, so removing a friend removes them here too.
Events waiting for you: if someone calls you, asks to be your friend, gives you a like, or removes you while you are not connected, we keep the two friend codes involved and which of those four things it was, so we can hand it over the next time you open VibeSwipe. It is deleted the moment it is delivered. It never contains a message.
Three small facts about a message already sent are held the same way, for whichever of you was not connected at the time: that someone took their message back, that yours reached their device, and that yours was read. Each one keeps the two friend codes and the identifier of the message it is about — never anything that was said — and is deleted the moment it is handed over, or after fourteen days if nobody comes back for it.
Chat-only mode: this mode never asks for your camera and opens no direct connection between the two devices. Text, photos and voice messages are relayed through our server to the matched person. The microphone is requested only when you deliberately start recording a voice message, and its track closes when you send or cancel. Voice messages in a live match are relay-only. A voice message sent to an offline friend is temporarily stored under the bounded waiting-message rules above.
GIF search: if you open the GIF picker, your browser asks KLIPY for trending GIFs using a random provider identifier stored only in this browser. If you search, that request also includes the words you enter and the app language. KLIPY receives the network information needed to answer the request, including your IP address. Choosing a result reports the selection to KLIPY and sends its unchanged media URL; the GIF then loads directly from KLIPY on each recipient’s device. VibeSwipe does not proxy, rehost or cache KLIPY’s GIF file.
Moderation snapshots: if another user reports you during a matched chat, one image of you at that moment plus a short piece of the recent messages are saved with the report, so moderators can review it. In video mode that image is a still frame from your video. In chat-only mode it is the picture on your preview card. These are only created when a report is made in a matched chat.
Safety records: the reason given for the report, the moderation snapshot and chat snippet, the device identifiers and IP addresses involved, and timestamps.
Help, feedback and feature requests: if you contact the VibeSwipe team through Help, we store the category you pick, the name you enter, your messages, our replies, the request code, your device identifier, your IP address and timestamps, so the conversation can be handled and reopened with the code.
Why we process it (legal bases)
To run the service and match people: performance of a contract (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)).
Camera and microphone access: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw at any time in your browser or device settings. Chat-only mode does not ask for a camera; it asks for microphone access only when you choose to record a voice message.
Safety, moderation, abuse prevention and enforcing our rules, including moderation snapshots and bans: our legitimate interests and the protection of our users (Art. 6(1)(f)).
Handling help, feedback and feature requests, and showing updates by code: performance of a contract and our legitimate interests in support, moderation and improving the product.
Audience measurement, advertising measurement and ad delivery through Google services: only in line with the consent choices we show you.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal data. Cloudflare provides content delivery, security and TLS. The application backend and the TURN relay run on our own server in the European Union.
Google provides web fonts, Analytics, Google Ads measurement and AdSense advertising. A consent management platform passes your advertising and analytics choices to Google. Google and Twilio STUN services may process your IP address while your devices try to set up a call. When a direct connection is not possible, encrypted media may be relayed through our TURN server, but it is never recorded.
None of that call setup happens in chat-only mode. There is no direct connection to arrange, so no STUN or TURN service is contacted and your IP address is not shared with them.
KLIPY provides the optional GIF search in chat-only mode. It receives GIF search, selection and media requests only when you use that control or display a selected GIF. VibeSwipe asks the browser not to send credentials or a referring page with its API requests.
How long we keep it
Server-side presence data (your live card and preview picture) exists only while you are connected, and is deleted as soon as you leave. Video captures last only for the current Video session. Your browser keeps the latest optional Chat-only profile photo locally until you remove it or clear this site’s browser data. Voice-message audio is never placed in the server moderation transcript; the short list records only that a voice message happened and goes when the match ends. A live-match voice message is relay-only. An offline friend voice message is deleted from the temporary queue on delivery or after fourteen days. Reports, moderation snapshots, ban records and help requests are kept only as long as we need them for safety and support, normally up to 12 months, and are then deleted.
Friend codes and likes: kept while the browser holding the code keeps using VibeSwipe, and deleted after the same retention period as everything else once it stops.
Notification addresses and watched codes: refreshed every time your browser connects and deleted after thirty days without one, or immediately when you turn notifications off. An event waiting for you is deleted as soon as it is delivered, and after fourteen days if you never come back for it.
Saved conversations: kept in your browser for as long as you keep that friend, and deleted when you remove them or clear this site’s browser data. The only server copy we hold is a text, photo or voice message still waiting for a friend who was offline; it is deleted as soon as they receive it and after fourteen days if they do not.
Cookies and local storage
We use your browser’s local storage to keep a random device identifier, a separate random KLIPY customer identifier, your latest vibe setup fields, your latest optional Chat-only profile photo for Chat Quick Start, your theme and language match preferences, your latest help request code and, for moderators, an access token. If you become friends, photos and voice messages in the conversation are kept in that browser’s IndexedDB with the local transcript. A Video-mode capture is not placed in local storage and never replaces the Chat-only photo. The saved Chat-only photo stays on that browser unless it is being relayed as your live Chat-only preview card. Cloudflare may set strictly necessary security cookies.
Third-party vendors, including Google, may place or read cookies on your browser, or use web beacons, IP addresses and other identifiers, when ads are served. They use these technologies to serve and measure ads based on your prior visits to VibeSwipe and/or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables Google and its partners to serve personalised ads based on visits to this and other sites.
Where consent is required, your choices control whether personalised advertising is allowed. You can refuse or withdraw consent through our consent message, manage or opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings, and read how Google uses data on partner sites in Google’s partner-sites disclosure. The consent message names the third-party ad technology providers we use, and links to their privacy information and the choices they offer.
The consent platform stores your privacy choices. Google Analytics, Google Ads and AdSense receive denied Consent Mode defaults before their tags are configured, and may use storage or additional measurement features only when the matching consent signal is granted.
Friends: your friend list and the private half of your signing key are stored in this browser only — the key in IndexedDB, where it can sign but cannot be read back out. Clearing this site’s storage deletes your friend code, your friend list and the likes attached to that code, and because there is no account there is no way to restore them.
Saved conversations are kept in the same place, in this browser’s local storage, and only for people in your friend list. Clearing this site’s storage deletes them along with your friend code and your friend list.
Notifications: if you allow them, your browser can alert you while VibeSwipe is open in another tab, and — if you turn them on in the friends panel — when it is closed as well. The second kind arrives through a small service worker this site installs, whose only job is to show a notification and open the app when you tap it; it does not cache or change any page. So that it can name who a notification is about without us knowing, your friends’ names and the wording in your language are mirrored into this browser’s own storage, and the worker reads them from there. You can turn it off in the friends panel or in your browser settings at any time.
Security and children
VibeSwipe is served over HTTPS, preview cards carry no audio, and full call audio and video open only after a mutual Video match. Chat-only mode opens no camera; its microphone opens only for a voice message you deliberately record and closes after send or cancel. We apply appropriate technical measures to protect the service.
VibeSwipe is strictly for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly let anyone under 18 use the service, and we may remove underage users.
Your choices and privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, to receive a portable copy, or to withdraw consent. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that was lawful before you withdrew it. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
You can remove the locally saved profile photo in profile setup, or reset all locally stored setup data by clearing this site’s browser storage. Use the privacy message to review advertising choices, and the Help page to make a data or privacy request. Give us enough detail to find the right safety or help record, but do not send passwords, identity documents or other sensitive information we did not ask for.
You can remove any friend from your list at any time in the friends panel, which deletes them from this browser immediately and tells their browser to do the same. Turning notifications off in the friends panel deletes this device’s notification address from our server. Clearing this site’s browser storage removes your friend code, your friend list, your saved conversations and the likes attached to your code.
